Beginner's Guide to Vinyl
Project
The goal of this 5 week collaboration was to create instructional material aimed at a specific demographic. The final deliverables would take the form of both printed and digital resources, informed by in-depth research on the demographic and topic.
My team, consisting of 3 members total, chose to develop a starter kit designed to help newcomers explore vinyl record usage and collecting. The final kit design was in the shape of a record jacket that had printable materials which you could pull out and read. As a big part of vinyl collecting is the physical aspect of owning your music, we felt it was important that this starter kit be physical and visually interesting.

Final Assets Created
-A flap book containing information about vinyl storage, anatomy, record sizes, unique shapes, and how to clean your vinyl information.
-A website prototype where you could purchase this starter kit online, find stores near you that had the starter kit available, or download printables of the starter kit with a more basic design.
-Illustrations I drew in Procreate included on the final cover of the starter kit, the flap book back and front, and on the website.
-Physical stickers included in the vinyl starter kit. These stickers were illustrations of different types of vinyls, most of them having fun shapes and colours.
-A hype sticker, which is a sticker on a vinyl record sleeve that is a promotional label highlighting features about the vinyl, or in this case starter kit. They are designed to attract buyers and create excitement.
(A small note for typographers out there–this website builder platform has no bullet point options, which is why there are hanging indents in my list above).

The cover of our vinyl starter kit is an homage to the famous image of a dog listening to a gramophone, called His Master's Voice, painted in 1898 by Francis Barraud. As seen on the right.
In 1901, this painting became the logo and trademark of Victor Talking Machine Company, which is known as RCA Records today.
