In this 5 week project we were tasked with choosing three games that fell under the same theme and design limited edition Nintendo Switch covers for them, as if they were to be sold in a bundle. I decided to do four games that all fell under the theme ‘apocalypse’.
The 4 Games
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Horizon Zero Dawn
- Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle
- NieR: Automata
Final Assets Create
- An interactive advertisement that takes you to the Nintendo Shop to buy the collection.
- Front and back layout design for the cover of each game.
- 4 inside spread illustrations.
- 4 outside over illustrations.
- 4 Nintendo Switch cards/cartridges mock-ups.
- The full mock-up of the whole screen of a Nintendo Switch, with the 4 games.
Design Direction
We had to redesign the original covers in a way that showed they were being 'advertised' as a set. The jacket designs, both front and back, were driven by color, typography, and composition, as well as all made to look visually related.
Research, design development sketches, iteration considerations, and final production decisions such as paper type, weight, and thickness were all subjects considered when designing these jackets. In total, I did a series of 8 illustrations for this project in 5 weeks.
Interactive Advertisement
Another aspect to this project was designing an additional asset, of which I chose to do an advertisement mock-up that takes you to the website where you can order online. In addition to this, I also rendered the game cards/cartridges, what the games would look like downloaded on your Nintendo Switch, and an email mock-up.
